I worked at GDBA for one month. Since the Rajasthan High Court was closed for summer vacations, I was not expecting much work. But after joining GDBA I was impressed with the amount and quality of the work I got.
I majorly worked there in the field of Trademarks. My major work was of research on pending matters as well as drafting of documents like plaint and reply. As the Court was closed, there was almost no litigation work. So most of my work was research oriented.
Mr. G.D. Bansal, Managing Partner of the firm, is one among the leading IPR lawyers in Rajasthan. His associates regularly held lectures on varied topics in IPR; which often ended up in healthy discussions and deliberations. Each day, the associates assigned cases to us for research work. Our primary task was to find the points of law, judgments and / or authorities which were applicable to the issue or case at hand.
Interns were also expected to prepare a write-up at the end of the internship term on a specific topic. I prepared a detailed write-up on “The Concept of Digital Rights Management”.
I had good co-interns. They were studying at some of the best law schools in India; like RGSOL IIT-Kharagpur, GNLU, NLU-J, NLU-O, HNLU and RGNLU. The interns also held discussions on current IP related topics and IP societies in their respective colleges.
With amazing co-interns and work, I really enjoyed my internship at GDBA. As my previous IP experience was limited to copyright law, I was pleased to be introduced to new aspects of trademark law as well. I also learnt the procedure of trademark filing and compliance. In toto, it was a really good internship experience.
About the Office:
The office is located at Tonk Road, Jaipur (a.k.a Jaipur’s commercial hub). The Rajasthan High Court and Legislative Assembly are near to the office. GDBA had a floor dedicated to Interns. They have a very good collection of books on the laws relating to Patent, Trademarks and Copyrights. They have subscription to all the imporant databases.
About the Team:
Apart from Mr. Bansal, GDBA had 3-4 associates. A retired Judge of City Civil Court came every evening for proof reading their documents. He is well versed with the procedural laws. Discussions with him on procedural aspects of IP were always a fruitful exercise. GDBA has a friendly work environment.
With great people and amazing IP work, it has been a good internship experience at GDBA. It is one the best place to work at if you want to engage in IP work in Rajasthan.
They have decent infrastructure and a team of highly intellectual minds. They take care of their interns properly. They don’t over burden the interns with work and they also provide them with insights on the subject during regular discussions and lectures.
N.B: If you are expecting big corporate office and style of working then GDBA may not be the ideal place to work.
