Enforcers of Intellectual Property Rights (EIPR), India’s largest investigation agency specialising in anti-counterfeiting solutions, busted a racket of counterfeit goods hoarded and circulated e-business retailers. MIDC police, along with special EIPR assistance, raided an authorized dealer of Flipkart and Snapdeal and impounded a wide range of counterfeit products from his godown in Mumbai.
Flipkart approached EIPR after it was flooded with complaints regarding the sale of fake HP products. Subsequently, EIPR ordered gadgets and appliances on Flipkart.com and noticed that around 95% HP products were fakes.
Further investigation revealed that three authorized dealers with titles Sangat Sales, Mahakali Stationery, Mahakali Xerox and Dubaria, all owned by Prabhu Kanji Dubaria, were engaging in the circulation of counterfeiting of goods. EIPR sought the aid of MIDC police and raided Dubaria’s godown.
The raid proved to be a jackpot as the godown was loaded with bogus goods and imitations. “Along with HP products, we also found various other kinds of fake items including perfumes, cosmetics etc.” said Gangadhar Muddiraj, Assistant Police Inspector, MIDC Police Station.
Dubaria will have to face the music in Court on Monday.
