Everyone has to leave the office before 8:00 P.M. as the State Bank building has to be closed down at 8:00 P.M.

Application procedure:

An application is to be sent directly to Mr. Sanjay Asher, Senior Partner at sanjay.asher@crawfordbayley.com.

One has to apply directly to the partner, as Crawford Bayley and Co. does not have a website of its own.

Office and Work description:

The office is placed on the 4th Floor of the State Bank of India, Fort Branch. The building is located in Horniman Circle. It has a parallel road on the other side which opens right in front of the Bombay High Court.

The office is spread across the 4th floor with a reception area, sitting area, conference rooms, separate chambers for partners, Xerox room, associates rooms, accounts department and canteen. The office does not have a separate library;however, the books are shelved across lobbies which connect conference rooms and partners chambers.

I worked under Mr. Sanjay Asher, Senior Partner in his litigation team and assisted the associates in litigation and arbitration proceedings.

The work assigned to me was diverse and non-monotonous ranging from issues involving succession laws, banking laws, family laws, arbitration law, securities law, etc. I also accompanied the associates for an arbitration proceeding relating to Family Settlement Agreement.

I also assisted in filing documents through the e-filing department of the Bombay High Court and in drafting notes to brief counsel.

Work Environment:

The work environment is very relaxed and informal. Due to it is liberal internship policy, the office is often flooded with interns. As the workforce is young and energetic, I felt that the associates were very approachable to doubts and queries. They made certain that I was always busy and allowed me to undertake some important tasks. Lunches were often sponsored by the associates outside the office.

Court visits were very frequent. The associates ensured that I witness senior stalwarts arguing in the Bombay High Court.

The office has a small canteen in one corner of the floor which makes sumptuous meals every day at an extremely affordable price.

Any other insights:

Constant work flow was the best thing about this internship. Work was lined up for me throughout the day. Having ample amount of work is the one of the most important things that an intern would want from an internship.

I feel extremely fortunate that an internship at Crawford Bayley and Co. facilitated me to discover and explore my newly found interest in the ADR mechanism of arbitration. The overall experience was enriching, which has encouraged and fascinated me to work in the litigation and dispute resolution sector.
